Guest Speakers November 12, 2009
Robbyn Robinson
November's speaker will be Robbyn
Robinson. Originally from Hempstead, New York, Robbyn began sewing
before the age of nine. She was taught by her grandmother who was a
dressmaker. Robbyn worked in the Home Decorating department at
Dannemann Fabrics in Laurel for 7 years, when, in 1986, she took a
quilting class and promptly gave up all her other hobbies. In 1993
she began working at Seminole Sampler Quilt Shop in Catonsville.
Before long her customers began referring to her as a “color
expert”. Quilt teacher Mimi Dietrich asked her to develop a lecture
on “Color—Robbyn’s Way” for one of the classes Mimi Dietrich teaches
at Seminole Sampler. Robbyn will present that lecture and a trunk
“show and tell” illustrating her approach to color based on “feel
and natural instinct” to Friendship Quilters.

Nov 21th,
Looking
forward to our Library Treat for November? Please note that
we have to wait an extra week in November! Due to a library
program, our Saturday at the Library will be November
21st from
9 am until 4:45 pm. Use our “usual” date, the 14th,
to support the economy by joining the Quilters’
Quest shop hop. On the 21st we’ll
have a discussion/trunk show of projects that use those
handy standard size, often pre-cut, pieces of fabrics—5”
charm squares, 2 ス” strips, and 10” squares. If you have a
favorite project or book using those pieces, bring them
along to share.
After lunch, Ursula will demo a throw (74 x 86)
that uses 40 of those 2 ス” strips, three yards of one fabric
for sashing with a single border. There is a single border
that needs four strips that are 6 1/2” by 78”. (2 ス yards
is cut lengthwise or less if it is pieced.) I used all fall
prints from my stash, but 40 is the magic number of strips
in those trademark “jelly rolls” or “bali pops.”
We hope that Fran Karns will give us a repeat demo
of that cute, quick pocketbook using 5” squares for the
exterior. |
